Interview with the Wicked Wool shop, an atypical place

Wicked Wool is not just a wool shop, it's a place where you can come together to share your experiences, your knowledge, your tips and tricks while tasting good little dishes cooked by Barbara, creator and enthusiast, whom we met for you.

How did you come up with the idea for this shop?

I've always liked to create objects with my own hands or make recipes for family and friends. Three years ago, I decided to change my life and leave the banking world in which I had been working for more than 20 years to go into wool. I took part in many fairs and organized workshops, but it is an activity that remained very seasonal and only occupied me 6 months of the year. Having got used to a busy schedule, I needed to do something else and have a full-time project. From this reflection was born Wicked Wool - Wool and Coffee, a shop combining the sale of wool, seasonal and organic food and a relaxation area. We've been open since May 15th, it's not the easiest period with the Covid crisis, but customers quickly adhered to the concept and come to eat with us or participate in the different workshops we organize.

How did you get to know TRADIS?

I discovered your furniture in the METRO catalogue and in my research I found your website. I then contacted you directly to order our first pieces of furniture with our launch budget.

Did you already have in mind the layout you wanted for your shop before you started?

I already knew that I wanted wooden furniture, something friendly, warm and natural and that would blend in with my world because the balls of wool are very colourful.

Which furniture did you choose and in order to display which products?

We mainly chose shelves and displays that were basically designed for grocery stores but that completely met our needs to display and showcase wool.

Did you want an aged wood finish from the start?

Yes for me it is the finish that best matches the different wool colours and allows to highlight them. It contributes fully to a warm and authentic atmosphere, exactly what I was looking for.

What were the main difficulties you encountered?

I knew very well what I wanted, it was already a good start! As we started in a completely raw space, without any layout, I was really able to design everything from A to Z. I made the plans myself, used the materials and colours I wanted for the floors and walls, was able to choose the right lighting and set up the right volumes. My customers seem to be as happy as I am with the result! As is often the case for establishments receiving the public, the main difficulty was rather in terms of administrative procedures!

What do you like most about TRADIS furniture?

I find that they are very aesthetic, I like the "raw" side very much but which does not catch the material, which was essential for me so as not to damage the wool during handling. The style is quite pure, which is also important for me because my balls are very colourful!

Are you satisfied with your collaboration with TRADIS?

Yes completely! The furniture is delivered assembled, the quality is there and the rendering is what I expected.
